Meet the boys from This Ain’t California

Wow! I am still psyched about yesterday. The film This Ain’t California is so sweet, cool, with smart and funny dialogues and makes you feel like a sixteen year old who wants to rule the world, who believes in being free. And the soundtrack is amazing. After the screening producer Michael Schöbel and actor Marco Sladek came to stage to answer questions and give some background info. Marco is one of the most famous DDR Skaters and participated at the Euroskate 88 in Prague. I asked him if he really was on that huge half pipe (yes he was!) and if he really dropped in (yes he did!). Later we caught them again on the street having a smoke and started chatting. When I told them I was from Barcelona, Michael explained how he brought La Fura dels Baus, a catalan theater company to Berlin and how they were all living at the Tacheless. Marco confirmed Barcelona as one of the best skating places and I was – with my wee bit of knowledge from my times back then – happy to agree. Can’t believe that 15 years after I have a wee crush on a skateboarder again. ¡Again!

Auweia… Ich bin immer noch ganz aufgedreht wegen gestern. Der Film This Ain’t California ist so cool, süß, mit interesanten und lustigen Dialoguen und weckt in einer das Gefühl wieder 16 zu sein und die Welt haben zu können, frei zu sein. Und die Filmmusik ist einfach dufte!! Nach der Vorführung kamen der Produzent Michael Schöbel und der Schauspieler Marco Sladek auf die Bühne, um über den Film zu erzählen und Fragen aus dem Publikum zu beantworten. Marco ist der berühmteste DDR Skateboarder und war auf der Euroskate 88 in Prag. Ich hab ihn gefragt ob er wirklich auf dieser riesengroßen, steilen Halfpipe war (ja, das war er!) und ob er wirklich ein drop in gemacht hat (ja, das hat er!!). O-ton: “So verrückt war ich damals”. Nachher haben wir die Jungs noch auf der Straße getroffen und haben mit ihnen geredet. Als ich erzählt habe, dass ich aus Barcelona bin, erwähnte Michael, dass er La Fura dels Baus, die katalanische Theatergruppe damals nach Berlin geholt hatte und wie alle im Tacheless wohnten. Marco hingegen erklärte Barcelona zur einer der besten Skate Städte der Welt, und ich – die ja von früher ein wenig davon weiß – war mehr als glücklich dieses zu bestätigen. Ich kann ja gar nicht glauben, dass ich mich 15 Jahre später schon wieder ein klitzekleines bisschen in einen Skater verknalle…
