Where are we now? David Bowie

Under pressure

While out and about in London last week, I saw this painting of David Bowie on a wall. I got very excited, he is one of my favourites singers since our mum made us watch “Christiane F. – We Children from Bahnhof Zoo” 20 years ago. By than we agreed with her about the sad thematic of the film, but we were far more impressed with the music. In the movie Christiane and her friends went to the Bowie concert.

Nowadays some people think I live in the boring west part of Berlin, but that’s so not true. First, Schöneberg it’s everything but boring, and second, non other than David Bowie and Iggy Pop used to live here in the 70ies. I haven’t found their house yet, but it’s at Hauptstrasse next to Rathaus Schöneberg, where Kennedy said his famous “Ich bin ein Berliner“. And while reading the Guardian online today, I found this article about Bowie releasing his first song in ten years. In Where are we now? Bowie sings about Berlin, the Nürnberger Strasse, the KaDeWe. That’s my hood!! And his album is coming out soon. Gosh, I am so excited!!

In Where are we now? singt Bowie über Berlin, die Nürnberger Straße, das KaDeWe. Ach, ick freu mir ja so!!

mmhh but still, the stuff about West Berlin being cool (now ) is not that convincing if you justify it with Bowie and Iggy having lived there in the 70´s… it´s a bit like saying Paris is so cool because of Toulouse Lautrec and his buddies! : P

Anyway, looking forward to listening to DB new songs!!

  2. Aló, i never said West Berlin is cool, I think Schöneberg is not a boring, posh neighbourhood but great with lots of places to go and cool things to see. And Paris is not cool because of Toulouse-Lautrec and his buddies, it’s because Jim Morrison is buried there. ;) I am also very much looking forward to hearing the new songs. Actually can’t wait. cheers.

  3. The painting in London is by Otto Schade by the looks of it and Bowie and Iggy Pop lived at Hauptstrasse 155 I think if you’e looking for the house.

    • oh thanks!! will definitely gonna check out the house! am also very pleased to find out the name of the artist. cheers.

The keys to the apartment (confirmed 155) are hanging up in the Bowie exhibition in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, for some reason…

    • I am trying to get tickets for the exhibition but they are sold out already… Hope to see the keys and a lot of other interesting stuff… Thanks for the info!
